A common condition that happens to most Twin Cam owners is that they are told their crankshaft needs to be replaced. This is always sad news, but even worse is the fact that the owner did nothing to cause this condition.


So, how can this be resolved? Well, there are only two options and the first option isn’t a good one:


OPTION 1: Replacement

A remanufactured engine can be bought from Harley-Davidson, the defective crankshaft can be replaced, or a JIMS crankshaft can be purchased. Going this route does nothing to resolve the issue, as you would just end up in the same place again rather than making the proper modifications to alleviate the condition.


OPTION 2: SBC 106 Signature Engine

  1. •S&S 4.500 stroker crankshaft piston kit, yielding 106 cubic inches

  2. •The above crankshaft is balanced, trued, and welded

  3. •’03 and later crankcases receive a Timken bearing conversion

  4. •New Timken bearing and updated pinion bearing


CAM CASE:

  1. •’07 updated chain drive cam set

  2. •Camshaft selection includes either S&S, Andrews, or SE cam kits

  3. •New oil pump and billet cam plate

  4. •New SBC lifters and SE adjustable push rods


TOP END:

  1. •OEM engine gasket set with .030 head gasket

  2. •Cylinders bored to S&S piston kit

  3. •Scotsman 1.980 performance cylinder heads

  4. •Entire engine is built by SBC
